Pleasant Hill student appears on the NBC ‘Today Show’

Kelly Voigt, an 11-year-old sixth grader at Pleasant Hill School, was featured in the “Today’s Family” segment of the NBC Today Show on Feb. 27. Kelly, who at age 7 was severely bitten by a dog, confronted her fears by developing and conducting “Prevent the Bite” sessions to teach her classmates and other District 15 students how to avoid being bitten. Kelly teamed with Nancy Skeffington, a psychologist at the Conyers Learning Academy, and her trained animal therapy dog, Casey, to develop the dog safety classes, which they have presented for more than four years. A Today Show crew filmed Kelly at school and home, and she, her mother Kathy Voigt, Ms. Skeffington, and Casey were present on the show’s New York set. Host Katie Couric pronounced herself “very impressed” with Kelly.
