District 15 Names New Principals at Seven Schools
The 2004-05 school year will see new principals in many District 15 schools. Seven individuals were appointed at the Board of Education’s monthly meeting on February 11.
The new principals and their schools will be:
Joshua Carpenter—Lake Louise
Mary Geregach—Pleasant Hill
Margaret Lasiewicki—Conyers Learning Academy
Christopher Martelli—Hunting Ridge
Mary Szuch—Frank C. Whiteley
Kelly Wieczorek—Winston Campus Elementary
Craig Winkelman—Walter R. Sundling Junior High
“The changes resulted from the need to fill several positions vacated by retiring principals and administrators. These individuals were selected after a rigorous search for qualified candidates that included evaluation of input from school staff members, parents, and community members,” said Dr. Robert A. McKanna, superintendent, who expressed appreciation to those involved in helping with the selection process. “We’re especially proud to note that the majority of those appointed come from within District 15. It’s gratifying to know that we already have such highly qualified applicants on our staff.”
Ed Nelson, currently principal at Pleasant Hill School, was previously named as the new principal of Carl Sandburg Junior High. A new principal for Virginia Lake School will be named soon.
Carpenter is now assistant principal at Lake Louise School. He has been with District 15 since 1998, serving as a core teacher at Walter R. Sundling Junior High.

Martelli is currently assistant principal at Virginia Lake School and previously was assistant principal at Lincoln School. He joined District 15 in 2001 after four years as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher in Buffalo Grove.
Szuch has been principal at Lake Louise School since 1999, where she was previously assistant principal and building assistant. She joined District 15 in 1986 and taught third grade at Stuart R. Paddock and Frank C. Whiteley schools.
