Fourth Grader Wins District 15 Spelling Bee
Aamani Paturi, a 10-year-old fourth grader at Marion Jordan School, correctly spelled “subaltern” to defeat 12 other District 15 students in the district spelling bee held February 4. Aamani’s victory came in the fifteenth round, after she spelled “guernsey” in the fourteen round but the remaining two contestants failed to spell it correctly.
Aamani will now advance to the regional competition, the North Cook 2004 Suburban Cook County Spelling Bee, scheduled for February 23 at Emerson School in Niles.
