December Employee of the Month: Pat Campbell, Board of Education secretary/executive assistant to the superintendent, Educational Service Center

“Exceptional organization and administrative abilities,” and “explicit attention to detail,” qualities cited by her nominator, are the hallmark of Pat Campbell’s work as an executive assistant to the superintendent and secretary to the Board of Education.

Pat has been a member of the superintendent’s staff since 1990 and was named board secretary in July 1991. Prior to joining District 15, she had worked in various corporations for nearly 20 years, including having served as secretary to a president of a railroad—the youngest and first woman to work for him—and secretary to a chairman of the board for a bank holding company.

“She has the ability to stay on top of multiple tasks in a calm and organized fashion, handles all aspects of the workplace in a very positive and professional manner, and always goes the extra mile,” her nominator noted. “She is available at a moment’s notice to locate information, answer questions, prepare needed printed materials, and review all written materials that are distributed by the office.” The nomination also commended Pat’s enthusiasm, her credibility, and the trust she engenders. “She does a remarkable job of working with the Board of Education to ensure a smooth and successful monthly board meeting.”

Pat believes she’s benefited from her experiences in working with the board, as well. “Every board member I’ve worked with has had a real impact on me, because they’ve helped me learn more about myself. It’s been enjoyable to work with the many unique personalities of the various board members over the years,” she says.

Pat was born and reared in Chicago and is a product of Chicago public schools. She attended Loyola University, and hopes someday to return to college to earn her degree. She and her husband Jerry are the parents of two adult children: Kelly, who’s currently working and attending college, and Brian, a graduate of Kansas State University who now works for Hewitt Associates.

In her free time, Pat enjoys many activities. She does a two-mile power walk most days before work, and loves to read and do counted cross-stitch. She and Jerry enjoy traveling and trying out new restaurants, and last summer, she took golf lessons. Her favorite activity, however, is time spent with her family, which now includes a new daughter-in-law, Jessica.
