District 15, Union Ratify Five-Year Contract

The Board of Education of Community Consolidated School District 15 ratified a five-year contract agreement with Local 73 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in a vote taken November 13. SEIU represents custodians, maintenance workers, and mechanics.

The contract is retroactive to July 2002 and extends to July 2007. The employees worked under the existing contract until a new agreement was reached. The contract was ratified by an overwhelming majority of the members.

“We are pleased that we were able to come to a mutually acceptable agreement with the SEIU local representing District 15 employees. This contract is an indication of the continuing positive working relationship between the district and the union,” noted Superintendent John G. Conyers. “We’re especially pleased that this is a long-term contract extending over five years. It’s a win-win situation—for the employees represented and for the district and community, too.”
