Sundling Junior High to observe Veterans’ Day
State Representative Suzie Bassi and John Conyers, superintendent of schools, will be the featured speakers at a Veterans’ Day breakfast observance at Walter R. Sundling Junior High School, 1100 N. Smith St., Palatine, from 8:15–11 a.m. Monday, November 11.
Members of the Sundling staff will prepare and serve breakfast to students and members of their families who are veterans. The ceremony will include a presentation of the American flag by the Palatine color guard and “The Star Spangled Banner” led by the Sundling band. Sundling’s chorus will also sing.
Other invited guests include State Senator Wendell Jones and Palatine Mayor Rita Mullins.
Veterans in attendance will have an opportunity to share memories of their time in the armed services, and these remembrances will be videotaped and shown to all Sundling students later in the day.
Sundling’s annual breakfast observance is one of many Veterans’ Day observances taking place in Community Consolidated School District 15 schools. “We believe we can best honor and pay tribute to our country’s veterans by sharing their many accomplishments and sacrifices,” explained Superintendent John Conyers. “When our students connect with the veterans in our community, they learn first-hand about dedication, bravery, and love of country in a much more insightful way than books could ever convey.”
