Junior High Students Participate in Illinois Junior Academy of Science Exposition

Students from three District 15 junior high schools recently participated in the state science exposition of the Illinois Junior Academy of Science on the University of Illinois-Champaign campus.

Ten students from Walter R. Sundling participated in the project session. Seven won outstanding awards, including Kate Lamberta, Sarah Cortez, Shobha Topgi, Tim Doyle, Steven Mlynarczyk, Kevin Taos, and Danika Prochaska. Arvind Narayanan and Sarah Long earned first place awards. In the paper session of the competition, Kate Lamberta and Shobha Topgi both received outstanding awards. Sarah Long won a Special Clean Water Award from the Illinois Water Environment Association, earning a ribbon, certificate and a $50 prize.

Plum Grove had seven participants. Three—Christine Meister, Laura Crowe, and Savio Chris—won outstanding awards, and Lindsey Horwath, Keith McLaughlin, and Whitney Gbur won first place awards.

Twelve seventh and eighth graders from Winston Campus participated. Michael Nowicki, Caitlin Carpenter, Shuvani Sanyal, and Akta Desai earned outstanding awards, and Suzanna Birner, Stefanie Wisbrock, Elise Masciale, Andrew Arnold, Ann Wedell, and Erik Christensen earned first place awards.
