May Volunteer of the Month: Christine Teno, Jane Addams PTA Volunteer

“I’ve always enjoyed project management,” explains Christine Teno. “I’m good at details.” It’s this talent which has enabled her to excel in getting things done on not one, but three Jane Addams PTA committees. She’s been involved with the PTA for the past two years, working on the school calendar, heading up the ways and means committee fund-raising effort, and putting out a PTA newsletter every three weeks.

“Her efficiency, wise choices, and hard work are apparent in everything she does,” her nominator said. “She is a very conscientious, diligent, and positive board member. If she sounds like Superwoman, we think she is! Jane Addams School staff and students are very fortunate to have such a caring and dedicated parent.”

Christine and her husband Gene are the parents of Nick, a fifth grader at Jane Addams. Two years ago, Christine decided, “If I want to know what’s going on at the school, I’d better get involved.” She says her PTA work has been really fun, especially the rapport she’s developed with other volunteers on her team and the nice people she has met.

A native of Iowa, Christine has lived in the Chicago area since 1985. She holds a BA in MIS technology from DePaul University. She enjoys playing softball and Nick plays baseball, and the whole family is involved with in-line hockey—Nick plays, Gene coaches, and Christine helps with the team.
