Central Road Student to Ride Rolling Meadows Fire Truck to School
An unusual “school bus” will be giving a Central Road School student an exciting ride to school on Wednesday, April 23. Third grader Alejandra Ramirez will arrive at the school via fire truck, courtesy of the Rolling Meadows Fire Department. Alejandra won the opportunity when her home escape fire plan—a homework assignment for all students—was chosen at random in a raffle.
This special incentive was part of a new safety and awareness program called “Risk Watch,” presented at Central Road School by personnel from the Rolling Meadows Fire Department in cooperation with classroom teachers. Risk Watch addresses a broad spectrum of safety issues: vehicle, bike and water safety; prevention of burns, poisoning, falls, and firearm accidents; and what to do in case of choking, suffocation, or strangulation. In addition to the fire escape plan for their homes—an assignment completed by 100 percent of Central Road students—Risk Watch activities involved role-playing, demonstrations, props, and other engaging assignments—including the classroom appearance of one fireman in full protective gear.
Alejandra is expected to arrive at the school aboard the fire truck between 8:45 and 9 a.m. The school is at 3800 W. Central Rd., Rolling Meadows.
