District 15 Students Members of Winning Team in Space Camp Competition

District 15 special education students were members of the team which won a major competition at the U.S. Space and Rocket Camp in Huntsville, Ala., in May. The team took first place in the Space Bowl, a two-day academic competition on the history of space exploration. Also competing were 66 gifted students from Virginia and California as well as 40 other students from across the country.

Twenty special education students from four District 15 schools trained for four months to prepare for the Space Camp experience. The training is conducted in collaboration with the Space is Special Foundation. This marks the sixth year that District 15 has sent special education students to the Space Camp.

“The students represented District 15 well,” noted Carol Curry, special education coordinator. “Space Camp is a great experience for them. The friendships they make during the time they are at camp are invaluable.”
