Learning Academy Students To Teach Kimball Hill Students About Dogs
Who: Students from The Learning Academy and Kimball Hill School; Casey, a certified therapy dog; Nancy Skeffington, animal-assisted therapist; Tracy Wrobel, teacher at The Learning Academy; and Dorrie Weller, second-grade teacher, Kimball Hill School.
What: Fourth- through sixth-grade students from Tracy Wrobel’s class at The Learning Academy will make a presentation on dog behavior to students in Dorrie Weller’s second-grade classroom at Kimball Hill School.
When: 9:15-10 a.m. Friday, April 26
Where: Kimball Hill School, 2905 Meadow Dr., Rolling Meadows
Why: The goal of the presentation is to share information on dog behavior and bite prevention strategies with the second-grade students and to give them skills to be safe around dogs they encounter. Dog bites, a common cause of injury to children, most often affect children aged 10 and younger. The students giving the presentation also benefit by performing a community service.
