‘Freedom’ Is Theme For April 30 Intergenerational Fest

“Generations Connected by a Love of Freedom” is the theme for an Intergenerational Festival set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Winston Campus, 900 E. Palatine Rd., Palatine.

The festival is the tenth such intergenerational event sponsored by the Community Consolidated School District 15 Intergenerational Committee, made up of community members, retirees, and members of the District 15 staff.

Special guest will be TV’s Beverly DeJulio and her daughters. Ms. DeJulio, who will serve as master of ceremonies for the festival, is well known as “Handy Ma’am,” the title of her PBS television program. Her daughters, who attended Winston Campus, perform with their mother on the show.

The event will also feature performances by the Kimball Hill second-grade Music Makers, the Winston Campus Jazz Band, the Central Road School Chorus, and the Schaumburg Park District Senior Glee Club. A special video production highlighting intergenerational perspectives of freedom, produced by members of the Thomas Jefferson School community, will be shown.

“The Intergenerational Committee felt a patriotic theme was very timely for this year’s festival,” noted Dr. Nancy Chalex, principal of Thomas Jefferson School and chair of the committee. “We decided to focus on the idea of sharing a love of freedom between generations—after all, that’s how the strength of our country gets passed along.”

Residents of all generations are encouraged to attend and to bring their extended families. Admission is free.
