District 15 to Sponsor Young Authors’ Conference

All students in Community Consolidated School District 15 elementary schools are invited to participate in the district’s first “Young Authors’ Conference: A Celebration of Writing!” The conference, designed to encourage and recognize students’ writing, will feature a local writer talking about his/her writing experiences and small group sessions in which students will discuss writing and share what they have written with other students at their grade level.
The conference is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the district's four junior high schools: Carl Sandburg, 2600 Martin Lane, Rolling Meadows; Plum Grove, 2600 Plum Grove Rd., Rolling Meadows; Winston Campus, 900 E. Palatine Rd., Palatine; and Walter R. Sundling, 1100 N. Smith Rd., Palatine. Each junior high will host students from its feeder elementary schools along with that school’s own students. One adult per family must attend.

All students who attend the District 15 conference will be eligible for a drawing to win a free registration to the Illinois Young Authors’ Conference May 18 in Bloomington, IL. Three winners will be drawn at each site; winners must be present to claim their prize.

This is the first year District 15 has conducted its own Young Authors’ Conference, but the conference is expected to become an annual event. For the past several years, District 15 participated in a similar event for students from the northwest suburbs, with approximately 70-80 students participating. The districtwide conference will allow more student and family participation.
