April Volunteer of the Month: Andi Rothenberg
Winston Campus volunteer

Andi Rothenberg radiates enthusiasm about Winston Campus and its students. Whether it's dressing up in an eagle costume to portray the school mascot at pride assemblies or helping to design the campus logo, she's been giving generously of her time and talent in dozens of ways for the past ten years.

Her involvement with the school began shortly after Andi and her husband Sid moved to Palatine. Son Adam was in fifth grade, and Jason was about to start first grade. "I told my neighbor I wanted to be involved with the school, and she brought me to the PTA meeting," Andi remembers. She's been deeply involved ever since, throughout the years her children have been at the school: sons Adam (a Palatine High School graduate who works as a computer technician for PHS and attends Harper College); Jason, now a freshman at PHS; and Sarah, a third grader.

Andi has been an active PTA participant and is currently in charge of the Ways and Means Committee, which organizes the wrapping paper sale, the welcome back picnic, the craft fair, and the sock hop. She has chaired the yearbook and historian committees and taught after-school specials programs several times, including balloon art and bead art classes. She also served as hospitality chair at the PTA Council level, organizing the School of Information dinner. Beyond her PTA responsibilities, she handles ordering of the school's spirit wear, sews costumes and designs sets for musical productions, helps with the junior high graduation dance, and serves as "unofficial showcase chair," maintaining the showcase in the school's lobby.

"Andi exemplifies a volunteer willing to contribute her talents and energies to making Winston Campus a positive environment," said her nominators.

When she's not involved with a school project or serving as her daughter's Brownie troop leader, Andi works as a craft designer, designing craft projects for magazines, manufacturers, and trade shows. She wrote a craft book for kids which has just been published, and she occasionally makes television appearances. She's a member of the Hobby Industry Association and the Society of Craft Designers.
