HIAS Offers Immigration Information at B-PAC Meeting
The third of four Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (B-PAC) meetings scheduled for this year is set for Tuesday, March 16, from 6:30–8 p.m. at Winston Campus Elementary, 900 E. Palatine Road in Palatine.
B-PAC participates in the planning, operation, and evaluation of the district’s Spanish bilingual programs, and targets parents with children in those programs. In addition, important topics relating to education, the district, and the community are shared.
The meeting will feature a presentation by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society Chicago (HIAS). Founded in 1911, HIAS has helped tens of thousands of people through the immigration process. During this informational meeting, HIAS will …
- Provide immigration updates
- Discuss immigrants’ rights as both citizens and non-citizens
- Explain eligibility requirements for obtaining green cards
- Emphasize the importance of becoming an American citizen, and outline who can apply to do so
HIAS representatives, including an attorney that specializes in immigration law, will be available during the meeting to answer questions.
Supervision for the meeting will be provided for children ages 3 to 9 (older children are welcome to attend the meeting with their parents), and transportation to this meeting will be offered from the following locations:
- Edgebrook Community Center, 1926 Green Lane North in Palatine
- Police Neighborhood Resource Center, 2272 Algonquin Parkway in Rolling Meadows
- Bonhill and Country Glen apartments, 2264 Nichols Road in Arlington Heights—bus will load in front of Building 2252 in Country Glen
Buses will begin loading at 6 p.m., and leave promptly at 6:15 p.m.
