Thank you for your interest in Carl Sandburg Junior High School, where we seek to fulfill our mission of “Ensuring Excellence and Equity for All Students.”

Carl Sandburg Junior High works in partnership with students, parents, and the community to provide a world-class educational experience structures to maximize our students’ academic achievement and foster feelings of confidence, leadership, and self-worth. Our knowledgeable and talented staff is made up of educators who are sincerely committed to young adolescents.

Our diversified and rigorous curriculum focuses on basic literacy, logical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that will prepare our students for success in high school and beyond. We also offer a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports and music programs as well as a number of clubs which allow students to explore and develop their individual interests.

One of the key goals of our district and Carl Sandburg is to provide a safe, caring, and orderly environment. In our school we have great success with the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system. PBIS is a systems approach to proactive school-wide expectations for all students. It provides both staff and students a systematic approach to problem-solving and uses data for decision-making. Through the use of “Cool Tools,” students learn our core values as indicated in our “Wildcat Ways”—Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. PBIS provides the Sandburg staff with school-wide expectations that define, teach, remind, celebrate, and correct student discipline.

If you’d like to learn more about Carl Sandburg, call us for more information or to arrange a visit.

Sincerely,
Edward R. Nelson
