Thank you for your interest in Willow Bend School. We are very proud of our accomplishments at Willow Bend, where our motto is “doing what is best for kids.”

Willow Bend School was named a 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education—one of just 19 schools in Illinois and 287 nationally to earn this prestigious education award in 2007. Our school earned the award on the basis of high-level student achievement. In addition, Willow Bend has been named a No Excuses University (NEU) school. No Excuses University schools are a network of K-8 schools across the nation dedicated to aggressively promoting college readiness for all students and universal academic achievement.

Approximately 480 kindergarten through sixth-grade students attend Willow Bend, where we pride ourselves on using technology to learn, not learning to use technology. All our classrooms, even kindergarten, are equipped with multiple computers and television monitors. Children as young as first grade are learning basic computer skills and creating their own Excel spreadsheets. Older students are building Web pages, creating PowerPoint presentations, and using the Internet for sophisticated research projects. Our fully-equipped video studio gives students valuable experiences as they produce not only daily school news programs broadcast to each classroom but also other special productions related to curriculum.

Our use of technology as a learning tool, however, only complements our emphasis on ensuring that all students are well grounded in the basic skills of reading, writing, and math. We address each child's needs individually and provide any extra support indicated. In addition to our staff of enthusiastic and experienced classroom teachers and program assistants, we have the resources of special education teachers, a school social worker, and a school nurse. Our many community and parent volunteers provide extra support for our students and service to the school.

We are proud of our school and eager to welcome visitors! To arrange a visit, please call our office at (847) 963-7300.

Sincerely,
Toni Kappel
