Thank you for your interest in Virginia Lake School. Our school serves a diverse population of approximately 800 students (kindergarten through sixth grade). Our school community is committed to producing world-class learners. “Dolphin Pride” is demonstrated throughout our school by staff, students, parents, and volunteers.

We are very proud to be part of an elite network of schools and we are known as a No Excuses University. The network consists of schools that believe in teaching college readiness in the elementary schools.  We believe that all students can go to college and seek out ways to provide students with experiences, and tools to prepare them for their college journey. The staff consistently looks for ways on improving their instruction in order to allow each child to reach their full potential. In order for our students to be ready for their future, we ask that all of our students give 100% and do quality work all the time.

The staff at Virginia Lake consistently strives to meet the needs of all of our students. Teachers continually attend workshops, conferences, seminars, and classes to ensure that they are providing the best teaching practices to our students. Special intervention programs are in place to assist students in their learning and to assist them in closing the achievement gap. Our advanced students are provided with enriching opportunities to expand their learning and to assist them in excelling and reaching their maximum potential.

Virginia Lake strives to create a positive learning atmosphere throughout our building. Our staff seeks to demonstrate and acknowledge positive behavior. All students are encouraged to strive to become a “Virginia Lake Star” through their positive interactions with everyone in our building. Our “Wall of Fame” acknowledges outstanding students during the school year.

To promote a learning partnership between the Virginia Lake staff and community, our PTA provides many fun and exciting events. The PTA sponsors a family picnic to jump-start the school year, a sock hop, roller-skating party, and a number of other events at night for parents and students. In addition to our PTA volunteers, senior helpers and Palatine High School interns provide additional support for all Virginia Lake students.

We are proud of our students, staff and school and welcome the opportunity to share additional information with you. To find out more or to arrange for a visit, please contact me at (847) 963-7100.

Sincerely,

Mike Carmody, Principal
