Thank you for your interest in Thomas Jefferson School, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. In addition, we recently earned recognition as a No Excuses University school.

Our population of approximately 630 encompasses students of many diverse backgrounds and cultures in kindergarten through sixth grade. We strive to provide the kind of individual attention that encourages students both academically and socially and makes our large school seem like a smaller, more personal one. Thomas Jefferson’s mission is to empower our students to be self-motivated, world-class learners who demonstrate respect, responsibility, and commitment to academic excellence. Our motto is “One Terrific Journey,” and staff, parents, and community supporters are all dedicated to making each child’s “journey” at Thomas Jefferson truly terrific!

Because the ability to read well is key to academic performance in all subjects, a primary focus this year will be reading comprehension and vocabulary enrichment. Students reading below grade level have the opportunity to participate in any one of our reading intervention programs including Read 180 and In-Step. In math, we will offer out-of-level classes for students who demonstrate advanced understanding in mathematical concepts and computation.

As a No Excuses University school, we stress strong academics by teaching the skills students will need long after they leave elementary school. Promoting respect and character education are embedded into our daily systems at Thomas Jefferson. Through the CHARACTER COUNTS program, the staff has designed tools and supports to help students develop responsible decision-making skills and respect for one another. In addition, we encourage students to participate in activities such as band, orchestra, chorus, video club, and intramurals to enhance their academic program.

Thomas Jefferson School is extremely fortunate to have a great deal of involvement by parents and others in the community. Our PTA is a recipient of the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award at the state level for the G.R.E.A.T. (Great Reading Evident at Thomas Jefferson) program that helps first- and second-grade students with reading. We also enjoy strong support from individuals, businesses, and governmental organizations within the Hoffman Estates community.

We welcome the opportunity to provide more information about our school. Please call us at (847) 963-5400 with questions or to arrange a visit.

Sincerely,

Arturo Abrego
Principal
