Thank you for your interest in Pleasant Hill School where our motto is “Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow.” Pleasant Hill earned the 2009 Academic Excellence Award designation on the Illinois Honor Roll (for the sixth consecutive year), a distinction that goes to high-achieving Illinois schools. Pleasant Hill has been recognized by the United States Department of Education as a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School in 2004 and as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2001. Our entire learning community—students, parents, staff members, and civic groups—is focused on the best interest of our students.

Pleasant Hill staff members are highly qualified and committed to providing each child with the best possible education. All students have their individual learning needs met to help them exceed their potential. Our curriculum is based on District 15 Learner Statements and the Illinois Learning Standards, and our instructional strategies spring from best practices in research. We employ a variety of data to determine our course of action for our School Improvement Plan. Our staff and students effectively implement quality tools in the classroom and throughout the school, including the PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) approach to problem solving.

Pleasant Hill students develop and enhance their leadership skills through academics as well as participation in a variety of club activities, including video technology club, student council, bus helpers, kindergarten helpers, cafeteria crew, and PTA-sponsored clubs. Our popular Cougar Character program, modeled from the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS), has helped students successfully develop skills in the areas of respect, responsibility, self-discipline, personal goals, citizenship, relationships, positive attitude, and conflict resolution. The Cougar Character program provides Pleasant Hill teachers with school-wide expectations that define, teach, remind, celebrate, and reward positive student behavior.

Parent participation is instrumental in helping our Pleasant Hill students be successful learners. Our PTA is an active, dedicated group of parents and teachers who work together to increase student learning and provide opportunities for parent involvement at school. The Pleasant Hill PTA provides many benefits for our students and fun activities that bring our families together.

The cooperative efforts of Pleasant Hill students, staff, parents, and community members continue to produce world class learners by building a connected learning community. Pleasant Hill School is a wonderful place for students to learn and grow. For more information, please call us at (847) 963-5900.

Sincerely,
Matthew J. Palcer, Principal
