David Corbett, Interim Principal
Thank you for your interest in Kimball Hill School, where—as our motto says—we “Expect the Best” of our approximately 600 elementary students. Our campus, nestled in the midst of downtown Rolling Meadows, is a family-oriented school where the home-school partnership is invaluable as we work together to produce world class learners. This partnership, along with tremendous community support, has led to an active PTA involving countless volunteers who work together to bring many fun and exciting opportunities to our Kimball Hill family. Our PTA looks forward to continuing a series of mini-courses, which give our staff, parents and senior citizens a chance to share their wealth of knowledge with our students.
Every morning all of us at Kimball Hill make a pledge to be respectful and responsible. To help develop decision-making skills that will help accomplish this, we implemented PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). PBS is a school-wide behavior management system that is centered on our school’s core values: Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be Here/Be Ready.
Kimball Hill hosts one of the district’s bilingual education (Spanish/English) programs for students in grades one through six. First graders attend self-contained Spanish-language classes. Second grade is a transitional year, with more integration into English-language classes, while third through sixth graders attend regular classrooms but have the support of a bilingual resource teacher.
Our campus in Rolling Meadows is also home to the David Hill Mission Control Center and Space Shuttle, along with the Owen K. Garriott Discovery Learning Center. These missions use technology in applying space topics that incorporate state standards and learner statements from District 15’s curriculum. They provide opportunities to excite and engage children in simulated space shuttle missions to encourage student interest in mathematics, science and technology.
Kimball Hill stresses academic achievement in all subject areas, but we put a very strong emphasis on reading. Special intervention programs (KIP, FLIP, SAIL, SOAR, Accelerated Reader, and Read 180) are in place for students who need assistance with reading from kindergarten to grade six, including bilingual students. We also use “Jolly Phonics,” a program which helps early readers learn to sound out words and become more confident readers and writers.
We are very proud of what our community atmosphere has been able to accomplish here at Kimball Hill. Students, staff, parents, and our entire community welcome you and your interest in our school. For further information or to arrange a visit, please call us at (847) 963-5200.
