Thank you for your interest in Gray M. Sanborn School. Our school provides education to a uniquely diverse population of approximately 530 elementary (kindergarten through sixth grade) students. There’s “Tiger Pride Inside” our facility, originally constructed in 1949 with renovations and additions in 1994 and again in 2001.

Our mission—to help all Gray M. Sanborn students develop to their highest potential mentally, physically, and emotionally—is student- and stakeholder-focused. The core values that drive all planning and decision making are centered on service to our constituents and continuous quality improvement. In addition to K-6 regular education programs, Sanborn also houses a Grade 1-6 bilingual (Spanish) program, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) services, a program for multiply handicapped students, and Grades 1-6 special education learning/behavior resource program. We provide speech/language and social work services as needed. Our students also gain valuable exposure to visual arts, fine arts, physical education, and music, including band and orchestra for the older students.

One of the key goals of our district and Gray M. Sanborn School is to provide a safe, caring, and orderly learning environment. In our school, we have had great success with the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) system. PBIS is a systems approach to proactive school-wide expectations for all students. It provides both staff and students a systematic approach to problem-solving and uses data for decision-making. Through the use of “Cool Tools,” students learn the school expectations as spelled out in our “Tiger Traits”—Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe. PBIS provides Sanborn teachers with school-wide expectations that define, teach, remind, celebrate, and correct student discipline.

Sanborn School has been named as a No Excuses University School. No Excuses University Schools are a network of K-8 schools across the nation dedicated to aggressively promoting college readiness for all students and universal academic achievement.  NEU Schools follow three key approaches:

  1. Promote a culture of universal achievement by creating and supporting high academic expectations for every student.
  2. Develop exceptional systems in the areas of collaboration, curriculum alignment to academic standards, and academic interventions.
  3. Prominently display university symbolism throughout the school.

We welcome you to experience our “Tiger Pride.” Call us at (847) 963-7000 for more information or to arrange a tour of our school.

Sincerely,
Michael Carmody
Principal
