Swine Flu Information Update

Swine Flu Update—All District 15 Schools Open May 6, 2009

All schools in Community Consolidated School District 15 will be open on Wednesday, May 6, including Carl Sandburg Junior High and Central Road Elementary Schools.

Although the Cook County Department of Public Health determined that we were not required to close facilities based upon a probable case of Influenza A H1N1 (Swine Flu), both schools were closed today as a precautionary measure.

The closing of these two schools allowed us to bring in an outside cleaning agency to perform a complete building-wide disinfection of these facilities. Universal Cleaning Services, in conjunction with district custodial staff, is spending the day cleaning and disinfecting all contact surface areas (desks, countertops, doors, door handles), all washrooms, public areas, including carpet extraction and other floor surfaces.

Additionally, US health officials have stated this afternoon that they no longer recommend that schools close because of swine flu. They further state that the swine flu virus has turned out to be milder than initially feared. Parents should still make sure to keep children with flu-like symptoms at home for seven days.
