Instruction
The Department of Instructional and Special Services is responsible
for the development, implementation, instructional technology support,
and assessment of the district's instructional program. The department's
major goal is to provide support to the schools, enabling staff
to implement and refine the district's educational program. This
goal is accomplished through service to the buildings with the department
acting as a resource and clearinghouse. Services of the department
include curriculum development, instructional material development
and adoptions, instructional strategies, student assessment, staff
development, technology applications, student support services,
specialized programs (gifted education, second-language programs,
Title I reading services, etc.), and special education programming.

The Student Services Department provides special education programs
and services for disabled children in compliance with the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Illinois Administrative
Code. Programs within the district meet most students' special education
needs. For example, district programs serve students with the learning,
language, physical, mental, visual or hearing disabilities, or behavioral/emotional
disorders.
School health services: school social workers; reader services,
braillists, and typists for visually impaired students; physical
and occupational therapists; and audiological services are also
available. Some severely disabled students receive services from
other public and private agencies, and some severely hearing impaired
students receive services from the Low Incidence Cooperative Agreement
(LICA), a special education cooperative of 45 districts including
School District 15.
