Northwest
Suburban Council of PTA/PTSA
The Northwest Suburban Council of PTA/PTSA (Parent Teacher Student
Association) consists of 20 local PTA and PTSA units. Each unit
represents one of the elementary or junior high schools in District
15. These units work closely with their school's principal and staff,
as well as the community-at-large to create and enhance educational
opportunities for all children. They also implement programs that
create a sense of community for the families of children enrolled
at that school.
These PTAs also work to keep parents informed of legislative activities
pertaining to children and public education, and act as a clearinghouse
for parenting information available in their schools or in the community.
Each PTA provides a school calendar and a monthly newsletter to
families in their school.
The Northwest Suburban Council (NWSC) oversees the work of the
local units, and works with them and the district to promote and
support parent involvement at home and school. NWSC provides to
each unit support for their programming, information about PTA programs
at the state and national level, and opportunities for volunteers
to develop as leaders in their schools and community.
PTA is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) service organization.
The National PTA, of which all local units are members, is the largest
volunteer organization advocating on behalf of children. All PTAs
in School District 15 are committed to the Goals and Objects of
the National PTA:
- To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school,
community, and place of worship;
- To raise the standards of home life;
- To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children
and youth;
- To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that
parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education
of children and youth;
- To develop between educators and the general public such
united effort as will secure for all children and youth the highest
advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.
